There are many resources that define and explain Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).  If you have been diagnosed with COPD, it is important to understand what kind and stage of COPD you have because that will help guide your treatment.

Emphysema is a type of COPD where the tiny air sacs (alveoli) at the end of the larger airways (bronchi) are damaged making you progressively short of breath.

Emphysema is diagnosed by a Pulmonologist using pulmonary function tests (PFTs) and often includes a CT scan of your lungs. While emphysema is not reversible it is treatable. Treatment options depend on many factors and you should consult your Pulmonologist to decide what is best for you.

PneumRx is investigating a minimally-invasive device to help treat severe emphysema. The clinical study is called RENEW, however; enrolment is compete. If you would like, you may sign up for PneumRx updates here.
